Buffalo Chicken Calzones

This buffalo chicken snack will be a new favorite.

Regardless if it's Buffalo Wings or Buffalo Chicken Dip, everyone has their favorite buffalo chicken dish. Now, we present a fresh take on your favorite: Buffalo Chicken Calzones. They encompass all the delicious elements of shredded chicken soaked in hot sauce and ranch dressing, complemented by the added advantage of a crispy, golden-brown crust. With the enhancement of cream cheese, green onions, and celery, this dish ensures that all your cravings for heat are satisfied.

Ingredients

  • Nonstick cooking spray

  • 3 cups shredded chicken

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened

  • 1/3 cup cayenne hot sauce

  • 1/4 cup ranch or blue cheese dressing

  • ¼ cup chopped green onions

  • ¼ cup finely chopped celery

  • 2 portions Homemade Pizza Dough or 2 lb. purchased refrigerated pizza dough

  • 1 cup shredded pepper Jack cheese or crumbled blue cheese

  • 1 egg

  • 2 Tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1½ tsp. dried Italian seasoning, crushed

Directions

  • Start by preheating your oven to 450°F and applying nonstick cooking spray on two baking sheets. Mix the shredded chicken, cream cheese, hot sauce, ranch or blue cheese salad dressing, chopped green onions, and chopped celery in a medium bowl.

  • Split the dough into six pieces, and form each piece into a ball. Roll out one dough ball into a 7-inch circle on a lightly floured surface for each calzone. Spread around ½ cup of the chicken blend on one half of the dough circle, keeping a 1-inch border. Add about 2 tablespoons of pepper jack cheese on top. Dampen the edges slightly with water. Fold the dough over the filling and use a fork to seal the edges. Transfer the prepared chicken calzones to one of the prepared baking sheets. Repeat this process with the remaining dough and fillings.

  • Whisk an egg with 1 tablespoon of water in a bowl. Brush the calzones with this egg mixture. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning over the tops. Make a few small holes in the tops with a fork or paring knife. Bake the calzones, rotating the sheets once, until they turn golden and sound hollow when tapped, which should take about 15 to 20 minutes. Allow the calzones to cool slightly before serving, and provide extra ranch or blue cheese salad dressing for dipping.
